Greenwood Hostel is located between Blackwater Bridge and Templenoe on the 'Ring of Kerry Cycle Route' and within a few hundred metres of the Kerry Way. The hostel is set back from the main road and has large gardens with mature trees.
Weary walkers nearing the end of their Kerry Way can plan to break up the 30km long section between Sneem and Kenmare by staying at Greenwood Hostel. A sign-post for the hostel can be found on the forestry track shortly after Blackwater Bridge.
The hostel is approved by Fáilte Ireland and is a member of the Independent Hostels Owners. There are 20 beds in total with a mixture of private rooms and family rooms. Half of the rooms are ensuite with showers. Some of the upper bedrooms have views over the trees and across Kenmare Bay to the Beara Peninsula.
Although the kitchen is well-stocked for self-catering, breakfasts can be pre-ordered. Evening meals can be secured in Templenoe at 'Pat Spillane's Pub' but only in the Summer. Alternatively, the 10-minute taxi ride to Kenmare can be organised.
Guests are welcome to use the garden and the barbeque facilities. There is a well-stocked library to browse through in the lounge and a large stock of framed photographs of cultural sites from around Ireland. There are also a selection of musical instruments which are there to play.
Hostel Owners, Torsten and Sabine, both speak German and are happy to welcome fellow countrymen to Kerry.
