Grade: Easy

At just 6km, this is one of the shorter sections of the Kerry Way. This stage starts at the church at Tahilla, on the 'Ring of Kerry' road. Initially following the signposted road for Glencar the trail quickly leaves this quiet road and follows an old coach road, lined with telegraph poles. The trail gains enough height along Lough Fadda to have views back across Coongar Harbour and Drongawn Lough beyond to the south-west. After passing through a boggy section of track through Derrenamacken Wood, the trail rejoins a country road, marking the end of the first 3km of this stage.

After 1km on tarmac surface, the Kerry Way follows a small boreen that eventually disintegrates into a gravel track. As the trail progresses it starts to enter boggy terrain. Proper hiking boots are preferable for this section. After 1½km of cross-country walking, the trail decends onto the road for the final ½km to reach Blackwater Bridge and the beautiful cottage which is no longer the post office which it is marked on the map as being.
