Similar to Black Valley, Glencar is also an extremely isolated area with most of the housing being spread out over a large area. The hamlet rests at the foot of Carrauntoohil which, at 1,039 metres above sea-level, is Ireland's highest mountain.
The Climber's Inn can be considered the central point for the community as it also runs the post office and shop. As the name suggests, it's a popular watering hole for hillwalkers. A sign on the door proudly exclaims "Some of the world's most experienced mountaineers have come through this door on weary legs."
